How-to...
Apply
Step 1: Section your hair
Take a small section of hair from the crown of your head and clip it out of the way.
Tip: You will need to place your Style Strands highlight under a few layers of hair to hide the micro-bead, so before applying, ensure you have enough hair to properly cover the attachment.
Step 2: Gather an extra small section of your hair
Take a small section of hair and separate it from the rest of your hair (the section should be approximately the same thickness of your Style Strand highlight, perhaps slightly thinner to ensure it fits through the micro-bead).
Tip: You will be attaching your Style Strand highlight to this section of hair so ensure it is placed exactly where you want it!
Step 3: Thread your hair through the loop
Pull your small section of hair, through the top of the clear plastic loop that is attached to your Style Strand highlight.
Tip: Ensure your micro-bead is really close to the root of your hair (about 0.5-1 cm from the scalp), but not so close that it will pull your hair!
Step 4: Pull the threading loop through the micro-bead
Pull the plastic threading loop all the way through the micro-bead until the loop is completely removed from the micro-bead. This will pull your natural hair through the micro-bead at the same time so it is inside the ring of the Style Strand highlight.
Tip: If you are having difficultly and your hair won't pull through the loop, simply remove some of the hair from your strand. By making your strand of hair a little smaller it will allow it to fit through the micro-bead. You should feel a little resistance, but should not need to use a lot of strength to pull this through.
Step 5: Adjust your Style Strand
Now you can adjust the placement of your style strand highlight to ensure it is close to your root. It may have slid down while you threaded your hair through in the previous step, so simply slide it up nice and close to your roots!
Tip: Keep the plastic threading loop. If you remove your Style Strand highlight, you can reapply it later using this loop!
Step 6: Squeeze the micro-bead until flat
Using a household pair of pliers, squeeze the micro-bead until it is flat. Your Style Strand highlight is now fully attached to your hair!
Tip: Don't squeeze down too hard. You don't need to use excessive strength on this little micro-bead. Gently squeeze down until the micro-bead is flat. Once it is squeezed together (flat), put those pliers down and move on to step 7! ;)
Step 7: Trim and style with your natural hair
You may now trim your Style Strand highlight to the length of your natural hair. Watch our video HERE on how to trim your Style Strands!
Tip: To ensure seamless style, please watch our video on how-to trim your Style Strands at home. And, if you feel you didn't get it the first time don't worry, just watch our removal and reapplication videos and try again!
Remove
Step 1: Section your hair
Take a small section of hair from above your Style Strand highlight and clip it out of the way.
Step 2: Open the micro-bead
Using a pair of household pliers, gently squeeze the ends of the micro-bead in order to open it up into a circle. The gently force you apply to the ends of the micro-bead will cause the micro-bead to go back to it's original form.
Tip: Do this slowly. If you are too aggressive you will cause the micro-bead to go from flat, to open and back to flat. The key is to gently squeeze it just enough so that it opens up enough for it to slide off your hair.
Step 3: Slide the highlight down your hair
Now that your have opened your micro-bead your highlight will slide down your strand of hair and off. Simply place two fingers around the ring and gently guide it down.
Tip: Do not pull on it. If you find it is not moving, you will need to go back to step 2 and open the micro-bead some more.
Step 4: Reapply, store or toss
Now that you have removed your Style Strands highlight, you can reapply it (instructions below), store it in a dry place for later or if your highlight has seen better days and finally exceeded its lifespan - say goodbye.
Re-Apply
Step 1: Re-thread the micro-bead with threading loop
Remember the threading loop we told you to keep in the Apply section? This here is why! Take this threading loop and thread it up through the bottom on the micro-bead. The small plastic end of your threading loop should be on the side with the highlight, and the fishing-line-looking loop will be at the very top - just like when you first applied it!
Step 2: Apply
Now simply apply your highlight just as you did the first time. If you forget how, click HERE and we'll take you back through the application instructions!
