So with the holidays just around the corner, we decided to do a simple and easy half-up tutorial that is just soo pretty - the hair bow.

We've been seeing tons of pictures of this gorgeous style floating around Pinterest, and just had to try it (see our inspiration photos below!) This half up style is super easy and we show you step-by-step how to do this at home.

All about the hair bows

Hair bows are just for toddlers anymore.  These pretty little hair accessories are one of the latest ways to add super sweet style to the simplest of hair 'dos.  If you haven't seen them in magazines, TV, pinterest or on your fav beauty blogger yet then it is only a matter of time.

Typically only about 4inches in length, these hair bows come in a large variety of different fabrics, colors, prints and patterns.  You don't have to worry about matching these to your outfit either - for these, the wilder the print the better!! My personal fav's include both paisley and stripped hair bows.  Whether your look is more preppy, sporty or vintage there is a bow that will compliment any style.

There are countless ways to wear your hair bow, however here are the my top 4 best hair bow placements:

1. Beneath your top knot

A top knot has been a hairstyle favorite for some time now and why wouldn't it be - it's easy and super chic!  Now you can add an extra punch of style to this ever-so popular style by placing a small hair bow directly beneath your top knot. You can try this look with a sock bun or just about any type of bun you like to wear.  And don't worry about the stray hairs peaking out, that only adds to it! ;)

2.  On top of a pony tail

To me these look is very cutesy and preppy - I love it. Play around with a high vs. low pony tail to see which look you like best and then clip your hair bow right above your elastic.

3. Half Pony

You can either pull two small pieces back from the sides of your head so they meet in the middle, or gather half your hair up with an elastic and let the rest fall down.  A hair bow can make even a dated, plain hair style look pretty and a little vintage with the right bow!

4. On top of a messy bun

As much as I like to fuss over my hair and style it, sometimes I really love throwing my hair up in a messy bun on top of my head.  It is just so comfortable! I can now go out rocking this hairstyle in confidence when I add a cute little bow on the top above the elastic.  It adds some cute, chic style to the bun and makes it look as though it was carefully styled in such a way, and not that I was actually too tired to style my hair down (we've all been there!!)

Of course, there is no wrong way to wear a hair bow - it's all about what you love and are confident wearing.  It's a fun, pretty accessory that's easy to work with and add to any look.

Do you have a unique way of wearing a hair bow? If so, please share! I'd love to hear it!
